TRUCK ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY DRIVER FATIGUE IN WILL AND KANE COUNTY, IL

Driver fatigue is a significant problem and is one of the main causes of trucking accidents. Many truck drivers are working very long hours and during times of high volume shipments, truck drivers often face pressure to deliver their loads as quickly as possible. If you or a loved one has suffered serious injury or wrongful death as the result of a trucking accident, Whiteside & Goldberg is here to get you the compensation that you deserve.

Since driver fatigue is noted as being a cause for numerous accidents, there are new federal regulations that have been issued in order to combat this problem. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration implemented new regulations on July 1, 2013, and these regulations were developed to prevent driver fatigue. Truck drivers are now only allowed to work a maximum of 70 hours a week, where it previously was set at a limit of 82 hours per week.

Another regulation stipulates that drivers have to take a 34 hour rest period after they have driven the maximum of 70 hours. There is also a regulation that states that truck drivers must take a 30 minute break when they are working for an eight-hour shift. All of these regulations have been set in order to help drivers combat fatigue and help them to drive more safely.

Drivers and their employers can face severe consequences if these regulations are not followed. Trucking companies can be required to pay a fine of $11,000 for each offense and drivers who have violated the regulations for more than three hours may experience a fine of $2,750 per offense.
